My first Post

Hello Everyone,

Here's Me

Here's Me

So this is just going to be a little bit about myself, my running philosophy and training philosophy. I would love to hear back from people.

So at this current stage of my life I am a Senior in College studying Bio-medical Sciences and am currently applying to and interviewing for Medical School. Running for me began right before my senior year of high school, up to that point I had absolutely loathed running. I really wanted to get in shape for the soccer season though so I began running 1-2miles everyday and after a couple of weeks I was really enjoying it. After the soccer season I was in the best shape of my life and really wanted to stay in shape so I continued to run 2-3 miles everyday and weightlifting (except Sunday) for the next year or so.

During my Sophmore year of college is when I got into distance running. After coming home from Christmas break my resident assistant wanted to know if I would run a marathon with him in April. I aggreed and trained for the next couple months, when race day came I finished with a time of 3:34. I have been hooked ever since. I’m currently preparing for my sixth marathon which will be my third Boston.

Running for me is a release, I can just get out and not worry about anything else. Let my mind be free. Or if I need to think about a problem I’ve been having or how I can deal with some sort of stressor. That being said I typically don’t wear a watch or HR monitor, I like to just be (though that does change once I start getting into my serious training). I think running has changed me as a person, making me much more sociable and outgoing. Also it has made me more laid back.

For weight training I currently love doing body weight exercises, lots of pushups and variations of pushups, lots of pullups, and lots of stability and core exercises. I love challanging myself and if anyone has suggestions for any exercises or anything please let me know.

Some of my current goals are to run a sub 3 hour marathon (I missed by 41 seconds last time) and at some point in my live would love to do an Ironman (I really need to work on my swimming though)

Mike
